Job description

Remote · Europe time zone

At Studytube, we believe learning and development are key drivers of growth, for individuals, organisations, and our own teams. As our platform continues to scale across enterprise and international markets, the Studytube Marketplace plays a central role in connecting learners and their organisations with training providers.

To support this growth, we are looking for a Backend Engineer to join one of our product feature teams. You will work on the Marketplace domain, the part of the platform that enables training discovery, booking experience, and allows training providers to offer and manage their programs. This is a remote role, open to candidates working within the European time zone.

About the role

As a Backend Engineer, you will be part of a cross-functional feature team that is supporting and improving our Marketplace. You will work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other backend engineers to build reliable and scalable backend systems that support business-critical workflows. You will take ownership of backend functionality, contribute to technical decisions, and help ensure the Marketplace continues to scale in a stable and maintainable way.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will  work on backend services that directly support the Marketplace and its core user journeys. Your responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining backend services and APIs using Ruby and Ruby on Rails

  • Developing backend logic that enables reliable and scalable product behaviour

  • Collaborating closely with frontend engineers on clear and stable API contracts

  • Writing clean, well-tested code and taking responsibility for its quality

  • Participating in code reviews and technical discussions within the team

  • Improving performance, reliability, and the overall developer experience

  • Applying modern development practices and continuously improving how software is built

Job requirements

Who you are

You are a backend engineer with solid production experience who enjoys working on product-focused, business-critical systems. You bring four to five years of experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails and have a strong understanding of SQL and relational databases. You are comfortable designing backend services and REST APIs and understand how services interact within a larger platform.

You work confidently with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows and regularly write unit tests to validate your code. You care deeply about code quality and value readable, maintainable code and sound engineering practices. You are able to deliver well-scoped backend work independently, while collaborating openly with engineers and product partners on backend functionality, dependencies, and trade-offs.

You keep the broader product context and user experience in mind when building features, take ownership of your work, adapt when priorities change, and communicate fluently in English.

Nice to have

Experience with MySQL, RSpec, background processing using Sidekiq, or API frameworks such as Grape is a plus. Familiarity with AWS, OpenSearch, or working on complex or business-critical systems is also valuable. We appreciate engineers who are curious and open to experimenting with new ways of working, including AI-supported development.

What we offer

At Studytube, you work in a product-driven organisation with a strong engineering culture and short communication lines. You join a feature team that is actively working on a large Marketplace initiative with direct impact on learners, organisations, and training providers.

We offer a remote-first setup within the European time zone, giving you flexibility while staying closely connected to your team. You will have access to a range of AI tools to support development, learning, and productivity, alongside modern tooling and clear development practices.

You also get extensive learning opportunities through our own Studytube Academy, a competitive salary, and the chance to grow alongside a motivated, diverse group of engineers building a scalable and future-proof learning platform.
